Micro & Nano Circuits

Tyndall has been active in microelectronics circuits for over 20 years.  There are 40 researchers focused on the Analogue, Mixed-Signal and RF integrated circuits space publishing at the highest level in conferences such as ISSCC and in journals such as the JSSC.  Researchers are working on collaborative projects with more than 25 industry partners on leading edge nodes down to 28nm.  Applications include food DNA testing, early cancer detection, radiation detection, wireless communications and energy reduction for data-centres.  Tyndall hosts Microelectronic Circuits Centre Ireland – MCCI.

Research Topics

Research topics include Gsps Flash ADCs on 28nm FDSOI in collaboration with Prof. Franco Maloberti (University of Pavia) and high precision SAR ADCs on 28nm CMOS in collaboration with Marcel Pelgrom (Honorary Professor K.U. Leuven).

CMOS RF SoC for high speed data-communications, medical imaging and security.  Projects include new RF phased-arrary radiometer architectures on 28nm silicon at 95GHz.

Frequency Synthesis
Research topics include spur reduction in Digital Delta Sigma Modulators, SiGe VCOs and 28nm CMOS All-digital PLLs in collaboration with Prof. Bogdan Staszewski (T.U. Delft).

Optical Transceivers
Research topics include higher order modulation for 56Gbps short-range optical transceivers and burst mode transceivers for passive optical networks.
