Postgraduate Students

Tyndall has a very vibrant and diverse postgraduate population.  Tyndall hosts a number of postgraduate students from a range of academic departments and institutes. 

2013 was a record year for Graduate Education in Tyndall as no less than 31students successfully completed their PhD degrees. At the end of 2013 there were 122 students based in Tyndall, 109 of these are PhD students and 12 are pursuing Masters degrees. 20 nationalities are represented in our student population: 51% of students are Irish; 19% from other EU countries and 30% from non-EU countries

Tyndall students have access to a wide range of postgraduate programmes and most of our students are registered with University College Cork or Cork Institute of Technology. Our students pursue PhD programmes in areas such as physics, chemistry, electrical engineering and life sciences. The Tyndall lead PhD Engineering Science programme allows our students study taught modules from a range of institutes throughout Ireland.

Our postgraduates further benefit from the strong collaborations between Tyndall and our industrial partners.  This provides students with the opportunity to work on exciting projects in direct liasion with industry.  The high quality of postgraduate research at Tyndall is also demonstrated by the prestigious awards that our students received.

We recognise that todays science and engineering graduates need a broads skillset in order to compete in an increasingly demanding environment. Our PhD Engineering Science students have the opportunity to also gain business skills and study for a postgraduate certificate in Innovation, Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship in addition to their scientific and engineering research.
